Mozart was our first Boerboel, and is our son's dog. Nicholas was 9 yrs old at the time and was given this 12 week puppy as a Christmas present. We agreed that it was time that our son learnt responsibility, and having this puppy was a good opportunity to do so.
Just briefly, let me explain why we felt that Nicholas needed a good motivational factor.
Our son was diagnosed with ADD and Hyperactivity at the age of 7. I won't go into detail, suffice to say there are numerous problems attached to this as any parent who has or had a H, ADD child will attest.
The moment that Nicholas and Mozart were in each other's company, there was an immediate bond with formed, and has bridged time. Both Nicholas and Mozart went through some tough times together; and learning curves.
Mozart was the best decision we could have made. Besides him being a constant shadow for our oldest son, he is an integral part of our family. He shows incredible gentleness & tolerance around our 8 month baby, and can give the older kids a romp for their money.
Nicholas is now in Grade 8, having overcome his hurdles, he is one of the top achievers academically, a good sportsman, and a chess player of note. and Mozart is tops in his class!!
I am by no means subscribing that every child with learning disabilities, hyperactivity, ADD, or any other disfunctionality should be given a puppy and the cure. In Nicholas' case, Mozart was the catalyst which made him want to win & achieve.
Mozart's sire is Egoli Magnum.
